SPONSORED REVIEW

Who here loves the golden arches? ME! ME! ME! I can still vividly remember during my childhood days how I would look forward to the weekends as that's when my parents would bring my siblings and I to mcd for breakfast. But we usually share the meals which meant insufficient happy meal toys and a fight ensures. As I grew older mcd became the perfect hangout spot for those late night suppers and endless conversations coupled with infectious laughs. So many memories as well as french fries were shared. Ha! Therefore you can imagine how delighted I was to join the one and only McDonald's Kampung Burger Party held at AMK mcd park.

part of the invitation!
As you could have guessed it already... our theme of the night was oppa kampung style! It was kinda a blast from the past to see some of the toys which we used to play.

how nostalgic!
The parachute guy thing, five stones, paper ball and airplane... seriously where do they get these stuff? Kudos to them for the effort ya. Ha! I bet the kids nowadays won't even know what all these are with their fancy iPhone, iPad and what not. Anyhoo, we were served Tropical Mango McFizz which is not only refreshing but also a real thirst-quencher.

not sure if he has any intentions on my drink?
Anyone recognize the adorable plushie above? It's Mr Hamburglar! Apparently he is a close friend of Ronald McDonald and has always attempted but failed to hoard all the delicious hamburgers in McDonald Land for himself. Aww... who can blame him for doing that? The good news is you have the chance to collect all these adorable plushies!

officer big mac, you shall be mine soon *evil grins*
om.nom.nom.nom.
Seriously, this is my first time having McDonald's served to me on a plate. How fancy! The Kampung Burger is made up of two breakfast muffins followed by a slice of pineapple ring topped off with tangy salsa sauce, crunchy iceberg lettuce and one single crispy chicken patty. I find the burger refreshing, it could be the pineapple, or the sauce, or the breakfast muffins instead of the usual sesame buns. But whatever it was, this combination certainly works for me! Their new drumlets reminded us of Pizza Hut's but not as dry and more succulent in comparison.

Shall end it off with a group photo! :)

Once in a blue moon I will suffer from serious fish and chips withdrawal symptoms and need to satisfy those cravings before it escalates. TRUST ME, YOU DO NOT WANT TO SEE THAT HAPPENING. Ha! Anyhoo, nowadays they do offer a wide variety of dipping sauces ranging from nacho cheese to chili crab and needless to say my favorites will always be the good ol' tomato sauce and traditional malt vinegar.

In England, you can find a chippy or chipper (shop that sells takeaway fish and chips) at almost every corner of the street. They are as common as how bubble tea is in Singapore. And one thing for sure is that those Brits sure know how to enjoy life as they wash down the golden deep fried goodness with a cold frosty mug. Let's take a peek on my list of approved chippies...

Molly Malones, an Irish pub along Circular Road which is fully-packed even on the weekday nights! But who can you blame? They serve great food and beer plus a live band promised to rock the premises. I saw a Molly Malones while holidaying in Phuket but didn't get the chance to try the food there. Shall do it next time yo! Back to the story, we almost couldn't get seats as I recalled they don't seem to take reservations. It took a while before we got the waiter's attention and ordered their famous fish and chips to share as well as one pint of beer each.

TADAAAH! Behold one of the yummiest I have ever had. The fish was soft, the kind that melts in your mouth and compliments beautifully with the crunchiness of the batter which is not too thick. I will definitely revisit but maybe during lunch and hopefully there won't be a crowd!

Next on the list, The Old Brown Shoe which is located among the shop houses near Coronation Plaza in Bukit Timah area. From the name itself you could have already figured out how quaint and cozy the pub is. If I did not recall wrongly, their happy hour promotion features housepours from 10 bucks and under. I had the Strongbow cider which is one of the better ones comparable to Somersby apple cider. The fish and chips were wrapped traditionally in newspaper as if we wanted a takeaway.

Basic condiments such as malt vinegar and tomato sauce were made easily accessible on each single table. I loved how the fish tasted however the batter although crispy was slightly thick. Guess the quality varies from each visit. On the bright side, the portion is huge which is a plus point for voracious eaters.

So what kind of fish and chips do you like? ;)

With the extension of Causeway Point brought about new dining additions in the suburban neighborhood. One of which is the All-You-Can-Eat Japanese steamboat buffet known as Shabu-sai. Well, the name isn't exactly endearing for most of us Chinese-speaking. But I am pretty sure the word "sai" which is similar to "yasai" just simply means vegetables. Phew! You can stop panicking now.

So basically you can choose 2 different types of soup base to go with your meat and veggies. The pretty standard ones are the sukiyaki and tonkotsu as well as the more peculiar ones such as tomato and curry. And knowing us, we went for the safe and boring choice and boy did we love the pork bone broth! For the meat, there's beef, chicken and pork slices available on request which I think is a good way to prevent food wastage. Other miscellaneous such as veggies, carbohydrates and different types of sauces and balls (e.g. fishballs, lobsterballs, etc) can be found easily at the buffet counter.

I will definitely come back for the food cuz it's really fresh which is a must for steamboat. S and I are both 'shrooms lover and they have an assortment to choose from such as shiitake, golden mushrooms and so on. The meat paste in bamboo tube are made up of pork chunks laden with juicy chestnut cubes. Yum. However, do note that they don't serve the usual prawns or any type of shell food so back off if you are a seafood lover! And the soup tends to be on the salty side so do drink a lot of water after that! :)

YESvember}

Whatever happened to the guy who reminded us to wake him up when September ends? IT'S FREAKING NOVEMBER ALREADY! Can you believe it? Sometimes I really wish that time will pass by slower or harness the power of a magic clock that has way more hours compared to others. But you know what they say about wishes... They. Do. Come. True.

Haha! I was trying for the dramatic effect but I guess it didn't work. Anyhoo, this is my favorite month of the year and why so?
  • One of my favorite songs is "November Rain" by Guns N' Roses.
  • It's still Autumn. Even though we don't see much of it here.
  • Movember! Grow a 'stache to raise awareness, how cool is that?
  • Thanksgiving. Turkey anyone?
  • And of course, Black Friday! My favorite kind of black ;)

On top of that, this is also the month for employees to look forward to their end of year wage supplement and bonuses. Honestly speaking, the rest of the months in the calender is just MEH to me.
  • December - everywhere is crowded due to Christmas and the dreaded school holidays
  • January - no mood to work, still in holiday mood
  • February -  Chinese New Year ushers in nosy relatives and too much calories (both equally lethal)
  • March to May - work! work! work!
  • June - Great Singapore Sale (commercialized leh) and the dreaded school holidays
  • July to October - work! work! work!
Red: months which you diedie also must stay at home
Blue: events which might work for you but not for me
Bold: events which you cannot escape no matter how hard you try

So if you are part of the working class which most of us is then you are basically screwed unless you love your job which I suppose a minority of us do. So do enjoy this month before you say NO to another year! :)
